Our Story

We are a boutique Barossa Valley wine producer who pride ourselves in creating wines that express Barossa's simple elegance, as well as unique varietal blends that pay homage to European styles. Our winemaking philosophy is to create wines that clearly present the characteristics of the varieties planted.

Haan Estate, formally Haan Wines, was established by Hans and Fransien Haan in 1993. Named after the Haan family, Haan Estate produces boutique wines of exceptional quality whilst remaining true to the varieties of the original Haan Estate vineyards. In 2017 Haan Wines was purchased by a partnership lead by George Zaal who rebranded as Haan Estate.

The rooster poised on the Haan Estate crest pays homage to the founding Haan family; haan means rooster in Dutch.

We produce wines true to Barossa, as well as taking pride in our unique wine blends that are reminiscent of the Bordeaux style, blending the lesser-known varieties of the Barossa such as Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Viognier and Petit Verdot.

Our winemaking philosophy is to produce wines that are symbols of the Barossa's simple elegance, reflecting its truly special wine traditions. We focus on creating wines of quality that present the characteristics of the varieties planted.
